We Serve Our Clients During Storms: Two Recent Cases of GDSI Customer Excellence

Case 1: Rain or Shine Assistance Over the Phone

Severe Tropical Storm Crising struck the Philippines in July 2025, intensifying the southwest monsoon and triggering widespread flooding and landslides across Luzon and nearby regions. The storm, along with related weather disturbances, caused the deaths of at least 30 people, displaced over 800,000 residents, and destroyed or damaged more than 1,200 homes. Infrastructure and agricultural damage has been estimated at over ₱5 billion, with Central Luzon and Calabarzon among the hardest-hit areas.

Among those affected was a particular branch of Jollibee in Bacolod City. Due to diesel shortages amidst the calamity, the generator was unable to start properly. Generators are generally robust pieces of equipment, but in cases of poor startup, a specific troubleshooting procedure needs to be implemented to ensure the equipment starts running and does not get damaged in the process.

During the evening, as the storm was rampaging, the branch called the GDSI aftersales team. An engineer—Sir Robert Pasco, Head of Technical Operations—along with his engineering team, immediately touched base. The client was guided step-by-step on how to troubleshoot the genset and was advised on the necessary steps to follow to get it back in working order despite the storm.

Given that this was a restaurant application, the building had a silent-type, weatherproof generator set, which withstood the forces perfectly.

After several hours and through detailed guidance, the client managed to get the genset back in working order, and the restaurant continued to serve at limited capacity during the storm.

Case 2: Not Our Genset, But We Served It Anyway

A particular property management company in Makati City, operating a large residential tower in the heart of the CBD, reached out to GDSI for assistance with one of its old generator sets.

This specific generator set was not supplied by G-Drive and was very old and worn down (it was a unit circa 1990s). To add to the challenge, it was during a period when the entirety of Metro Manila was struggling through a powerful monsoon season. Despite this, GDSI’s team of talented engineers took on the challenge to service, repair, and overhaul it.

From GDSI’s operational headquarters in Cainta, Rizal, a land-based team was quickly dispatched to assist the client within the same evening. Thanks to strong all-weather training and familiarity with a diverse range of generator platforms and generations of design, the generator set was revived and brought back to operating capacity in just a few hours.

Ultimately, it was discovered that the generator’s failure to operate was due to a lack of care and preventive maintenance—either through the original supplier’s failure to provide proper maintenance schedules or due to a lack of coordination and regular check-ins.

Following this success, the client later returned to G-Drive to purchase additional generator sets to overhaul its residential fleet, ensuring the hundreds of families and tenants who call these towers home have access to a reliable 24/7 supply of electricity, no matter the situation outdoors.
